Things To Know About Bababudangiri

Bababudangiri is located in Chikmagalur, a district in Karnataka. It is a mountain peak (1895 m) in the Bababudan range of the Western Ghats. This mountain range houses the two highest peaks of Karnataka. The other is Mullayanigiri which at 1930 m in height is the highest peak in the state.

Both these peaks have the shape of a crescent moon which were naturally formed and together they are called Chandradrona Mountain.

Bababudangiri is also well-known as a pilgrimage destination among both Hindus and Muslims because of its shrine to a famous sufi saint named Hazrat Khalandar.

A flower unique to the mountain called Kurinji blooms once every 12 years in Bababudangiri. These flowers bloomed last in 2006, and hence they are expected to bloom again in the year 2018.
